Schizophrenia

In this module I will discuss the classic symptoms of schizophrenia: psychosis, hallucinations and delusions, and give examples of the clinical presentation of all three. We'll review the frequency of this serious mental illness, dispel some myths, review the high rates of substance abuse including tobacco use, and review current treatment options. We’ll also review the rates of suicide and what staff can do to help prevent suicide.

Based on customer feedback I am developing a companion module that specifically defines hallucinations and delusions. Staff wanted to know what the differences were between these symptoms and how to work with patients with these symptoms. I have used common care scenarios, refusing medications or becoming agitated, to describe strategies to help your staff intervene effectively. I'll include a role-playing activity your Staff Educator can use to help your staff improve their verbal interaction skills. Stay tuned for this companion learning module!
